Saying “Thank You” from a Night in NOLA

THANKYOU_NOLA

The Junior League of San Diego Provisional groups, the Peonies and Lilacs, partnered to raise funds for a local nonprofit organization, STARS (Surviving Together, Achieving and Reaching for Success) through their event, “A Night in New Orleans”.

STARS is a program for teen girls between the ages of 12-17 who have been victimized by commercial sexual exploitation and domestic human trafficking. STARS provides support to empower the youth to escape sexual exploitation by developing their inner strengths, building a sense of community and supporting their reintegration into mainstream society.

The “A Night in New Orleans” fundraiser at CommonWealth was held on Thursday, February 27, 2014  was a grand success! With the generous help of many sponsors and donors, the groups raised $6,460 for STARS and The Junior League of San Diego! It was a wonderful masked evening, and all are  grateful to everyone who attended and contributed.

The evening began with happy hour Hurricane cocktails and live music by The Bayou Brothers, and was followed byaSongstruck Weddings & Events DJ. Many guests purchased raffle tickets in hopes of winning one of the wonderful items that were donated for the fundraiser, or a shot at the Grand Prize – passes to the Farmers Insurance Open! Things really started heating up with the photo booth located upstairs, and the tarot card reader was a huge hit…with guests even staying behind after the event ended for a chance to see into their future. “A Night in New Orleans” was a lively party with over 150 people in attendance … many signature cocktails were consumed, STARS’ artwork was purchased, funds were raised, art supplies were donated, and the jams carried on late into the night.

The Lilacs and Peonies look forward to using the money raised to complete a renovation project of the STARS meeting rooms, which took place on March 15, 2014. Thank you again to all who helped make the night such a success.
