The State of California just finished a very productive legislative session! On September 30, 2014 the Governor finished signing or vetoing bills that will become law on January 1, 2015. The Junior League of San Diego has two delegates that represent our league at the Junior Leagues of California State Public Affairs Committee (SPAC)– co-chaired by JLSD’s Virginia Chambers. In addition to supporting 17 home leagues’ focus areas, Junior Leagues of California State Public Affairs Committee is committed to ending human trafficking in all its forms. We support policies and programs that stop human trafficking, advocate for victims, and educate the community at large.
We’ve posted on the JLSD website the summary of our supported legislation that was signed into law by the Governor and an update to AB 2035, which we co-sponsored (co-wrote) with Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking (CAST-LA).
As it relates to supporting foster youth and ending human trafficking:
- 4 JLSD Supported Bills were signed into law!
- 7 SPAC Supported Bills were signed into law!
Please feel free to reach out directly to us if you have any questions and remember to rock the vote on November 4th, 2014!!!
