The Junior League of San Diego hosted The 2nd Annual Pampered for a Purpose Event, honoring transitional aged youth who have participated in the JLSD Mentor program for the 2014-2015 year. Pampered for a Purpose was help on Sunday, April 26th, at the Junior League’s Banker Hills headquarters. In attendance were 10 mentees, 12 JLSD members/mentors, all who enjoyed a festive afternoon of pastries, spa services, and celebratory acknowledgements for their participation this year. The event was designed to directly benefit the 10 former foster youth mentees by providing a day of beauty combined with practical life skills trainings. Hair, makeup and nail services were provided by Marinello School of Cosmetology, chair massages were provided by Balance Point Massage, and live music was performed by the band, DIVAD. Thanks to Panera Bread in Hillcrest, for donating baked goods and pastries.
In Summer of 2013, the Junior League of San Diego launched a mentor program that matched highly qualified JLSD members with former foster youth. The JLSD members act as mentors to consult with youth on topics of higher education, job application assistance, facilitating medical/dental care and appointments, helping them find social services that they qualify for, and generally being a stable adult role model in their lives that they can trust and depend on. The Junior League of San Diego has made their Mentor program sustainable for San Diego’s former foster youth and looks forward to mentoring a new group of young people, beginning this fall.
