Community Partner Spotlight: Take Wing Transitional Living Program

TakeWing

Take Wing Transitional Living Program (TLP) is an apartment complex located in the Sports Arena/Point Loma area of San Diego that offers transitional housing for homeless youth, including parenting youth, throughout the County for up to 18 cumulative months. The program provides 33 semi-furnished 1, 2 & 3 bedroom apartments. Program goals and objectives focus on each youth’s transition to self-sufficiency and successful investment in a sense of community.

Take Wing offers transitional housing and supportive services under 2 categories:

  • TYH- The first category serves youth, 18-24, who “aged out” of foster care and who were in foster care in San Diego on or after their 16th birthday and are currently at risk for homelessness. Youth are allowed up to 24 cumulative months of service between the ages of 18-24 (no longer eligible once a youth turns 24 years old).
  • Community Youth/TLP- The second category serves youth in the community, ages 16-21 (16 and 17 year olds must be legally emancipated), who are homeless. Youth are allowed up to 18 months of service between the ages of 16-21 (no longer eligible once a youth turns 22 years old).

JLSD has helped furnish apartments, provided Thanksgiving dinners and organized cooking and art classes for the Take Wing residents. For more information on Take Wing, download their brochure here or visit their website.
