Thank You: JLSD 2018 Gala- A Great Gatsby Affair

Some time has passed since our Great Gatsby Affair on the green of Morgan Run Golf Course and Resort. It’s because of you that we are able to create lasting partnerships to end human trafficking, and continue training programs that help develop successful women to be change agents in our community.

Through your generous donations we are able to support the league and its mission-based community projects to support transition-age foster youth in San Diego though programs like Band of Brothers and Solutions Summit.

You are part of our success story and we thank you.

The Junior League of San Diego is happy to recognize Poppy Fitch. As a former foster youth, Poppy’s enthusiasm for educational equity and leadership development is informed by her life experiences. She is fiercely committed to ensuring that youth and adults are free to reach their fullest potential through the transformative power of education.

2nd Annual JLSD Gala

The 2017 Junior League of San Diego Gala had a sold out crowd of 310 guests! Attendees filled each seat as they dined outside under the the full moon and on the green at Morgan Run Club & Resort.

The night was magical as they walked through the rabbit hole to registration and check-in where towers of “drink me” champagne flutes awaited each guest for a complimentary toast. From there, the guests moved onto the patio where market lighting and paper lanterns recreated scenes from Alice in Wonderland.

With flamingo croquet and music from the band CalPhonics, silent auction items lined the tables from a San Diego staycation to a ski trip to Lake Tahoe and a personal styling session by blogger Conni Jepersen – guests had an opportunity to bid on their favorite items. Additionally, the Village Hat Shop was selling fascinators and top hats for those in need of more festive spirit! At the call to dinner, guests sat at mismatched tables with a whimsical mix of tea cups, antique books, clocks, flowers, moss and silver plating  that recreated the Mad Hatter tea party.

The JLSD Gala program included a live auction and an opportunity for guests to “raise the paddle” in support of the Junior League’s community programs to support transition-age foster youth, stop human trafficking in San Diego and develop women leaders in the community. The “raise the paddle” fundraising goal was exceeded by double the amount due to everyone’s generosity!

The Junior League of San Diego Spirit of Community Awards were presented to three outstanding community members: Mrs. Ann Hill, a JLSD Sustainer; Mr. Dairrick Hodges, former foster youth and founding member of JLSD Brand of Brothers; and Senator Toni Atkins, California State Senator and advocate for human trafficking victims.

After dinner, a select number of attendees gained entry into the “Queen of Hearts” Speakeasy Lounge, decorated by To Be Designed, where they enjoyed an open bar, a DJ and checkered dance floor, exquisite lounge furniture, and an opportunity to try their key to the Speakeasy Liquor Cabinet. The rest of the guests enjoyed the night on the patio with music from CalPhonics. The night ended with a costume contest hosted by Frankie V of JAMN 97.5 FM. The crowd declared Dairrick Hodges the winner by applause!

The night was a huge success! The 2017 JLSD Gala Chair and Committee wants to thank everyone who attended and helped the Junior of San Diego continue its legacy in the community.

A quote from the Gala Chair Jessica Linde: “The night was magical. The full moon and dinner under the stars set the stage for a memorable evening as our community came together to celebrate the work of the Junior League of San Diego. From the Mad Hatter’s tea cups and costumes to the Queen of Hearts Speakeasy Lounge, the themed ushered in a buzz throughout the crowd. Maybe it was the excitement from the Mayor’s Proclamation of November 4, 2017 being designated as Junior League of San Diego Day; the sell-out crowd or exceeding the night’s fundraising goals to support the Junior League of San Diego’s mission-based programs. Whatever it may be, it was a fun night! I am proud to be a member of an organization that celebrates volunteerism and is working hard to make a positive difference in our community!”

November 4, 2017 was designated as Junior League of San Diego Day by Mayor Faulkner of San Diego.
