October Volunteers of the Month

Britnie Neuman, Oktoberfest Chair, Fund Development Council

Britnie was the chair of our 1st signature Fund Development event of 2016, Oktoberfest. As a 1st year active, her leadership of her committee was far from novice. Her ability to execute a flawless event and lead her committee is the reason she’s this month’s Volunteer of the Month. The Oktoberfest committee put on an event that was both fun for the event’s participants and effective in raising funding to support the mission and community efforts of JLSD. The Fund Development council thanks everyone who attended Oktoberfest…and thanks Britnie and the Oktoberfest committee for their commitment to our cause.

Making An Impact: Oktoberfest

A great time was had by all at the JLSD’s 4th Annual Oktoberfest. One hundred percent of the funds raised will go straight back to our community partners and directly to the Junior League of San Diego’s mission.

Calphonics rocked the house again with their amazing tunes, in addition to DJ Quanson mixing up the hits.

This year’s Mr. and Mrs. Oktoberfest went to this well dressed couple and was voted on by our cheering crowd.  They received a bottle of St. Petersburg vodka.

The new strong armed stein-holding champion  took home $100 and a bottle of St. Petersburg vodka.

Emily won the over $900-value San Diego staycation prize.

A huge thank you to all our sponsors for your generous support of the Junior League of San Diego and its missions.

Be sure to mark your calendars for our upcoming fundraisers The Main Event on November 12th and Jingle Bell Bachelor Bash on December 3rd.

The A La Carte committee is gearing up for the inaugural Junior League of San Diego Oktoberfest this Saturday at Quality Social.

To get everyone ready, let’s all learn a little Oktoberfest “lingo”:

Mingga: Munich, the birthplace of Oktoberfest
Prost: cheers!
die Blaskapelle: brass band
der Käse:  cheese
die Brezel: pretzel
die Würste: sausage
das Bier: beer
Biddscheen: please or you’re welcome
das Dirndl: traditional female Bavarian costume
Liederhose: leather trousers
Ein Bier, bitte:  “one beer, please.”

Das Boot: Das Boot is both the name of a german submarine movie and also the name of a traditional beer drinking glass. The glass holds 2 liters of beer, or in some cases 2 liters with room for foam (3 liters to the rim). It is the final drinking contest in Oktoberfest and also featured in the movie “beerfest”. Literally translated it means “the boat” or in the context of the drinking glass “the boot”. Credit goes to urbandictionary.com

You can get a pair of tickets for just $60 in advance, but don’t wait as tickets are limited and will increase to $40 per person at the door. Guests are encouraged to wear traditional Oktoberfest attire (dirndls and lederhosen). The best dressed couple will be crowned Mr. & Mrs. Oktoberfest by our special guest, Nathan Fast, from 93.3. You can also show off your strength in our Beer Stein holding competition. The winner will receive not only a fabulous prize, but huge bragging rights to boot!

This is an event you won’t want to miss!!!
