Tuesday, November 28 — Mark your calendars for Giving Tuesday 2017. Following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday begins the charitable season. #GivingTuesday is a global day for giving to those less fortunate.
We ask that you consider donating to the Junior League of San Diego to help us continue our work in the community. Click here to donate now and don’t forget to tell your friends why you’re supporting the Junior League of San Diego!
Want to give and then give some more this holiday season? Shop Cyber Monday at smile.amazon.com and select (your Junior League) as your charity of choice. Amazon will donate 0.5% of your purchase to the Junior League of San Diego.
Members join the Junior League of San Diego for many different reasons: volunteering, training, leadership, friendship and a desire to make our community a better place. Whatever our personal reasons are that lead us to the League, we all have one collective goal – to bring awareness to Transition Age Foster Youth (TAY) and Human Trafficking. During an October meeting the Provisional Training Committee had the honor of introducing our members to Abdi Yusuf.
Abdi shared his moving life story about what it’s like being a foster youth in San Diego and provided an eye-opening message about what happens when one transitions out of the system. Bringing success stories like Abdi’s to the provisional women sop early in their training helps build a strong foundation and deeper understanding of why we do what we do in the Junior League of San Diego.
What a year it’s been so far! Between fall training session, monthly socials, and getting the women started on the planning process for their Fund Development events, the Provisional team is staying very busy. Monthly training events are designed to expose the women to different areas of the Junior League with the goal that as they enter their first active year in the League, they will feel well prepared, equipped and encouraged to hit the ground running to make a difference in our community.
One of the most exciting parts of the provisional experience is planning and executing a Fund Development event. All of the funds raised, across five different events, in support of our mission-based programming efforts. The women have formed sub-committees, narrowed down themes, and have begun reaching out to partner with local venues. It’s remarkable to see these women so excited and active in their work and beginning to lay out every detail they will need for these events to come to life. We’re so excited to see what they come up with and we hope you’ll join us at an upcoming Provisional event. Stay tuned for details in early 2018.
Although the Junior League of San Diego’s 2016 – 2017 Year has come to close, we would like to, once again, formally recognize those individuals who were announced as annual award winners at the May General Membership meeting.
