Sheridan Mulphurs and Julie Montgomery have spearheaded the new “Active Member” Mentor Program within Junior League of San Diego (JLSD).
After spending countless hours researching other League’s programs, they created a detailed program designed for JLSD to further support and engage first through third year new actives. These two ladies have been instrumental to the Training Council and the League! Thank you!
Today marks the first day the Junior League of San Diego (JLSD) joins The Little Black Dress Initiative(#TheLBDI) – a global mission to “Make Poverty Unfashionable.”
When we consider the symptoms of poverty – homelessness, unemployment, food insecurity and limited education – foster youth are disproportionately affected.
The Junior League of San Diego has a long-standing tradition supporting foster youth. Therefore, throughout this #TheLBDI week, February 6-10, 2017, our Junior League of San Diego members will wear one black dress for five days to spark a conversation about foster youth and how everyone can help break their cycle of poverty.
The Junior League of San Diego invites YOU to join the cause. Lend your voice to our mission to “Make Poverty Unfashionable.” When you see see your JLSD friend, neighbor, or colleague supporting The Little Black Dress Initiative this week, consider:
sharing your own experience with poverty, #TheLBDI #JLSDDoesLBD
sharing your efforts to help others overcome poverty, #TheLBDI #JLSDDoesLBD
sharing the name of a local organization working effectively to eliminate poverty in our community, #TheLBDI #JLSDDoesLBD
sharing your support of the Junior League of San Diego member’s commitment to “Making Poverty Unfashionable,” by donating to the Annual Fund. #TheLBDI #JLSDDoesLBD
We want to know: What issues are important to YOU, here, in San Diego? Which proposal will receive YOUR vote, and why? Share your insights with #RockTheVote and #whyijlsd on social media leading up to election day, November 8th!
As a member of the Junior League of California State Public Affairs Committee (CalSPAC), the Junior League of San Diego(JLSD) joins seventeen other Junior Leagues in California in advocating for specific legislation related to member league issues during the Legislative Session.
CalSPAC sponsors and supports laws that improve the lives of California women, children, and families. As a new two-year legislative cycle commences in January 2017, CalSPAC is seeking ideas for laws that would improve services or close gaps for the California communities that we serve.
This consideration is a great opportunity for our JLSD members to be directly involved in the legislative process. Whether big or small, these ideas help the Junior League of San Diego, as well as other Leagues across the state, fulfill itsmission of building better communities.
If you have an idea that you’d like to share that falls under the categories of Health, Education, Violence Prevention, Human Trafficking or Family Support, please email the JLSD CalSPAC Delegates, Nicole Reyes and Dominique Coulon, at email@example.com (or by filling out and submitting the form, below) no later than November 6, 2016.
